I haven't had a chance to update you on print competition!
Well, depending on what you enter hoping to achieve, your good might not be someone else's good.
I did good.
I entered art that doesn't get entered into this particular competition. There is no category for what I do. I do alternative processes. I love darkroom, analog, and 19th century printing processes. I'm not as in love with sitting in front of a computer as I am sitting in a darkroom. Or playing in chemistry. Or sitting under the sun or with art in a light box. I love that. I love one of a kind art. I love art. I know it's not what everyone else loves. I am not everyone else, so that's okay.
So I entered an alternative process into a "photoshop" competition to narrow down what I did. I had to create art, scan it, create a presentation and enter it. Come to find out, I could have sent in the prints, but I didn't realize that in time. (But now I know, and there's years and years ahead of me)
I knew I wouldn't "do well" in a traditional sense. What I did want to do was make the judge's stop. They didn't stop as much as I'd hoped, but then a few days later, I got a message.
From a judge.
Who wanted to discuss my art, what I did, and encourage me to KEEP DOING MY THING.
Well, that was EVERYTHING. I didn't need a merit. I wanted to be SEEN. I wanted to show a different art.
SO what did that spawn in me?
Well, I've had Hahnemuhle Paper send me paper to create my processes with. I was seen.
I was encouraged by a judge that was an incredible artist in his own right. I was seen.
It's sparked my love of creating again. It's encouraged me to set up more workshops to share my love of art.
what this means for you?
It means keep your eyes peeled. I'm about to roll out a series of art workshops. One a month. you can register for one at a time, or get some "bulk" going on and register for more and the price gets cheaper per workshop!
You aren't going to believe the art that is about to be created. And it's SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!!!!! And it's one of a kind, it's fine art, it's all the things that sound cool to create. But it's also FREAKING JUST FUN!
So my weird way to enter an International Print Competition?
It worked out BEAUTIFULLY...
and.
I did it my own artsy quirky way.
