What is Gum Bichromate?
This will explain what gum bichromate actually IS, and how the process GOES....which will make you want to come take my workshop!
Hey Hey Hey! It's been a minute since we last talked! Or I talked. Or typed. Whatever, you know what I mean.
So, I've been working on many many gum prints in the studio...and also some kallitypes and also some salted paper prints, etc. I know, I know, this means NOTHING to you! So today, I created a little video of exactly what IS a gum bichromate print!
I realize that it's really tough to want to do a workshop if you have NO DING DANG IDEA what the workshop is ABOUT. So....I'm showing you.
Here's the groovy parts: I don't care if you have a camera or not. Only have your phone? GREAT...use it to take a photo. We're turning these into digital negatives anyhow so I don't care if you only have snapchat photos. They can be used! On the flip side, if you are an incredibly experienced photographer that shoots large format? Rock on. Bring in your negatives.
BUT WHY DOESN'T IT MATTER?
Well, because we need the negative. The negative of a photo from any camera is a negative that can be used! So when you come do this workshop, I'll show you how to make a digital negative (unless you shot film and want to use a real negative)....we'll make them here...then, we'll create art.
For real. Because it's fun and it's different and it's just a stinking BLAST....and gum is a great process to do before you move on to silver processes that I listed above. They're trickier. This one has some elements that you can't do in the others, like, pick colors. Yeah, make it whatever colors you want....you're the artist.
I really wanted to get on here and share what gum is since that is the next workshop that will happen.
What else? Well, I plan on offering a "try out several processes" workshop soon....and an evening one where we'll do one process and you can BYOB and we'll kinda have that art/wine/hangout combo going on! Does that sound good to you guys????
So the upcoming gum workshop is a 12-5 workshop. The 'several process' idea will be longer and the drinks and hang ones will be shorter!
I'm open to any and all suggestions on these....we have so much fun during them that I can't wait to do more!!!!!!!!!!! We might even offer a "sign up and bring a friend for free" one in the future also.... That way, you're with a buddy, which always makes it less intimidating. Even though, we're all buddies once you get here...hahahaha
So....sign up. Come be my friend for the day....probably longer than that...and let's make art!
Also, comment. Say hi. Let me know whom I'm talking with on here. Give suggestions. Tell jokes. I'm open. I'm not picky. :)
