Hip Hip Hooray!
I registered to teach more photography workshops through PPA! (Professional Photographers of America)
I really love teaching these workshops and have taught a number of them. I've taught how to shoot on manual, gum bichromate, ziatype, kallitype, cyanotype... all sorts of alternative processes and fun.
This time, I've decided to teach one that is watercolor oriented, so we will do cyanotype and gum bichromate. Gum is a water color based process with the fun of the 19th century printing process. It means you can create numerous looks, completely different looks and create art that is so incredibly YOURS. This workshop will be held on May 4th. You can't sign up YET, but I'll let you know when the sign ups begin. You'll have to sign up through PPA.
The next workshop will be a Silver Process workshop. It will be help on May 9th (same thing, can't sign up yet) and I've never mixed up the silver process workshops. This one will begin with cyanotype (unless I get people who've already done this, then there's not a reason to add cyanotype. I use this one as a great way to learn to coat paper with chemistry)...so assuming we have new people, we begin with that... then move onto kallitype. (the process used in the photo you see here). If all goes smoothly with kallitype and you want to learn more, we will collectively decide what you want to do! We can do several different types of processes! Each one has its own gorgeous qualities and its own gorgeous difficulties. haha!
I'm really excited to keep teaching these workshops. I love bringing art and alternative processes to all people. I have had some people ask some questions so I'll address them here!
1. Can teens do these workshops?
ABSOLUTELY!!!!! I'd stop at "teen" though. If you're younger than a teen and want to learn, I'm so open to that, but would rather do a kid workshop. (which would be amazing)
2. Do the photos have to come from a big fancy camera?
ABSOLUTELY NOT. These are 19th century printing processes. Any photo from any camera works. Any. Camera. I mean, from your phone is absolutely fine.
3. Can we create our own workshop for our friends?
Yes. I've done this also. Get 4 or 5 friends together and bring your own wine or beer or lemonade, whatever...and yes, I will teach the workshop and have a "art party" so to speak. They're great fun and absolutely easy to schedule!
4. What do we have to bring? I don't know what to bring!
Bring me a thumb drive with images on it. I'd say around 4 images. Images of anything. Can be abstract, landscape, flowers or portraits. Buildings are fine, Anything.
As for the rest, I provide it all. We are going to create digital negatives, print those, make art and you'll leave with your art and your negatives and your thumb drive.
You'll leave with new friends, new art and a new skill. I mean, who wouldn't want THAT!?
So get ready, save the dates...I only let 5 people in each workshop. If we sell out, I can add more. No problem.
