Alright Alright Alright....
So to follow up on yesterday where I was trying my first ever wet cyanotype.... I did it. I created one. It's not horrible, it's not the best and it isn't the worst. It CERTAINLY isn't the best.
I did it as I'd read. I put that stinker under UV lights for about 21 hours. Cooked it good. Then, as I did an instagram live....I started peeeeeling it off of the glass. It was stuck. And it SMELLED. When I say smell, I mean SMELLLLL. It smelled like feet and cheetos and doritoes and body odor and all the things that make your nose want to turn inside out. And I'm LIVE. I'm LIVE I TELL YOU....
So as I separate glass, spill my coffee, realize my print is STUCK TO GLASS and am still trying to hold a phone and sound semi - charming. ahem. I'm smelling the most foul crap you ever smelled.... So, really gross story short... after the live, after the washing and peroxiding and arting of the print, I go to investigate.
Cyanotypes don't smell. They just don't.
You know what does?
A MOLDED NEGATIVE.
That's right. As my art cooked and exposed away, it was slowly MOLDING. So when I separated the two sheets of glass that had molded transparency and ink and paper in it, it let out that gorgeous smell that filled my nose....as I was live in front of 3 and a half people that I don't even know. And I am supposed to IMPRESS THEM.
My lesson? I have no idea. My second wet cyanotype is cooking as we speak. I did a bit less water? I'll cook a bit less time? I have no idea what my variable is here, people! Any input, well, heck....let me know!
As for now, I'll share my first ever wet cyanotype....and her sibling, the molded negative. Just keepin' it real here....
So, as attempt #2 cooks, I'm going to scoot out of here in my groovy valentine leggings, that were an AMAZING girls' weekend gift by Andrea Davis
I am going to enjoy my valentine's evening and get the moldy smell out of my nose. I shall tune in tomorrow or this weekend and catch you all up on the art world... because one Monday? I'm shooting in the studio. Back to some non-smelly portraits! :)
And then? I'll be releasing the sign ups for our first On set shoot!!!!!!! SPRING THEME COMING UP!!!!!
And on that note, Happy Valentine's Day to you all..... Be safe, make good decisions.... and if you need a newborn photographer in 9 months.... I'm your girl!!!
