Ohhhh The Graduates of 2020
I mean, what a twist in the story, right? You do your schooling all these years and then BAM. The world shuts down right before you get to properly celebrate the win! It's a bummer. I know. I mean, I don't REALLY know, but, I get it. I would have been so disappointed.
However; the world wasn't done with just a pandemic, was it? It's like the universe kept on throwing things out... right?
So here's the thing.
We can't do anything about a virus other than do what we think is best to do and keep ourselves healthy and safe and do the same for others. Everyone has their own opinion on this, and I'm not blogging to debate....I'm saying...do what is best for you while remembering others might not be as strong as you with their immunity. Now, go do what you believe to be the best thing. We can't do anything about murder hornets and mother nature's temper tantrums... (or maybe we can, we just don't know it yet)
BUT....
There are people protesting for a reason. Be it by taking a knee or holding signs or educating themselves. The world is in a place of change. And you guys, are graduating from high school at a beautiful time. You get to go forth and implement change. You get to teach your children about how you graduated high school in the middle of history being made. You get to listen. You get to absorb. You get to learn the injustices, you get to see what isn't right and you get to put your foot forward and make the world better. More just. More peaceful. More aware. You get to usher your kids into a world that has their eyes open. You get to see that power is fabulous but also takes much responsibility. That protection is wonderful as long as everyone is protected. That fear should not live in the hearts of anyone for just being themselves. Do you have to agree with everyone or everything? Hell no. There is something to be said for thinking for yourselves....but make sure as you do it that you are affording that right to everyone. Think it all through. Is it fair, am I showing compassion, is this harmful, is it RIGHT!?!?
This is such a beautiful time to come into your own. Go to college, go to work, go to a foreign land....whatever you do...do it the best way that you can. Uplift yourself and others....and help keep the momentum going with regards to making the world better and better. The butterfly effect is real. If all you can do today is make someone smile, do that. If all you can do is make yourself smile, do that.
You're actually a lucky group. Because there's so much good just waiting to happen.
And you get to step right into it.
Congratulations, class of 2020. Do great things.
